Tango Festival DJs
Matteo Radaelli - Italy / RSA - Cape Town
Matteo is from Milan, having moved to Cape Town 12 years ago. He has been dancing tango for 20 years, and as a passionate traveler, wherever he goes around the world his tango shoes are must in his luggage! Music is a crucial part of Tango dancing. Going deeper into knowing and understanding Tango songs and compositions has opened even more space for him loving it. In the last few years listening, searching and acknowledging old and new orchestra’s masterpieces, building playlists and DJing at regular Milongas, Tango events and Festivals has become a part of his growth.
Johan Steyn - RSA - Cape Town
Johan has DJ'd and presented DJ workshops across Europe for 16 years. A keen collector of Tango tracks from the "Golden Era" of Tango, his style is traditional, informative and egoless. With his focus on the dance floor he seeks to create those moments of quiet enjoyment and inner smiles when the air is filled with only music and the gentle shuffling of feet.
Wikus Engelbrecht - RSA - Cape Town
Wikus is an Argentine Tango dancer, teacher, organiser and DJ based in Cape Town. An enthusiast of the genre since early 2011, he lived for years in the United States studying directly under a range of maestros from Buenos Aires and elsewhere internationally. While in America he started a Tango club at Oregon State University and later worked for a Tango company in Washington D.C. In December 2017 he organised the first big international Tango event for Southern Africa, the Cape Town Tango Marathon. He’s a milonga fanatic, but still DJs proportionately.

Nicholas Dallas - RSA - Cape Town
Nicholas studied drama and performance at UCT Drama School, Cape Town. The study of the craft allowed him to express different aspects of himself – a process he found again in the art of Tango. One essential element of theatre craft is the understanding and orchestration of rhythm and how it impacts on emotional journeys. This element is precisely how he now approaches the creation of a musical experience in an evening of Tango dancing. Drawing from all the eras of tango, and ranging from staccato (compás) to lyrical, he crafts tandas that spark a deep impulse in him to move. Some tandas are traditional, and some are cheeky!
Monja Boonzaier - RSA - Joburg
Monja’s journey into tango music began more than a decade ago through her love of the dance. Since 2022, she has been curating tandas for milongas in Johannesburg, where she’s affectionately known as Milonga Milonguita. Her sets are known for their emotional nuance, poetic flow, and deep respect for the dancers’ experience. Her curation is shaped by ongoing learning and listening, including tango experiences abroad and mentorship from seasoned DJs. Each tanda reflects her intuitive approach to musical storytelling, offering dancers a space to feel, connect, and be inspired to dance through the music.
